Prior to that he was a longtime originals writer for Reader's Digest. He has worked as a daily newspaper reporter, an Associated Press correspondent, and a CEO-level speechwriter for a Fortune Top 10 company. His nonfiction book Seasons of Shame: The New Violence in Sports, was reviewed in Barrons, the New York Times, et al, excerpted in Reader's Digest and featured on CBS 60 Minutes; Losing It: The Economic Fall of the Middle Class was translated, excerpted in Readers Digest, and featured as a four-day serialized excerpt in some 60 metropolitan newspapers.
