Enter your professional bio here : I'm an American-Canadian writer, editor, reporter and designer with over a decade of experience covering business and economics, consumer finance, lifestyle and other topics. With personal and financial ties to both countries, I help clients in the United States and Canada produce high-quality content for a wide audience. As a longtime personal finance writer, my byline has appeared in a variety of business and national news outlets, including AARP Bulletin, Liv Fun Magazine, LendingTree, The Balance, The Messenger, Bankrate's CreditCards.com, USA Today Blueprint, Forbes Advisor, Yahoo Finance, Fox, MSN and NBC News. I'm also a skilled service journalist and dogged enterprise reporter with a track record of producing impactful journalism. During my most active period as a consumer finance journalist (2012 to 2017), many of the articles I published went on to be cited years later in books, white papers, academic journal articles and congressional testimony. For example: In 2023, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) cited an article I wrote in 2013 about medical credit cards. In 2019, the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) cited in testimony to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs an article I wrote five years earlier about credit repair scams. In the early and mid-2010s, I was one of the first to cover lenders' use of AI-powered underwriting and flirtation with alternative data, and these are some of my most widely cited stories, including in publications, such as the Iowa Law Review, the Journal of Data and Information Quality, the Arizona State Law Journal, the Cardozo Law Review, the American Business Law Journal and the Southern California Law Review. For many years, I was also one of the only reporters who regularly tracked and extensively reported on the widening gap between the U.S. prime rate and new credit card APRs. It wasn't the sexiest topic, but the work was impactful, and my weekly reporting on average credit card interest rates was frequently cited by other news outlets. Earlier in my career, I worked in book publishing, including at a literary agency in Washington, D.C., that primarily represented journalists and experts (now known as Ross Yoon) and at a small educational publisher in Austin, Texas, called Prufrock Press that specialized in gifted and special education. A lifelong magazine enthusiast, I also interned in the mid-aughts at The New Yorker, The American Prospect and The Atlantic, as well as at the Washington, D.C. think tank, The Century Foundation. Plus, I'm not just a wordsmith and reporter: I also like to draw and offer editorial design and illustration services as a separate or add-on project. I have a certificate in graphic design and visual communication skills from OCAD University's School of Continuing Studies and am adept at using industry-standard design tools, such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, for a wide range of digital storytelling and graphic design projects.
